The tailored suit is the most elegant item in men’s clothing as long as its style, color and fabric are appropriate for the occasion, the season of the year and the climate, amongst other things.

The necktie (or tie) is a long piece of cloth worn around the neck, resting under the shirt collar and knotted at the throat.

Regardless of the fact that the definition of the necktie in most dictionaries states “a large band of fabric worn around the neck under the collar and tied in front with the ends hanging down as a decoration”, its history says a lot more.

Bespoke Suit: The ultimate garment in your wardrobe and by far the best fitting, Why you may ask? Well to construct a suit you need to start with a pattern and ‘bespoke’ means that you get a pattern drawn specifically for every part of your body and style.

The greatest proportion of the world’s fine suit, jacket and trouser wools comes from the Merino breed for which Australia has become famous for. For two hundred years Australia has been the major supplier of super-fine Merino wool to the woollen mills of the world for the production of high quality cloth used for bespoke suits and jackets and trousers. The foundation of the Australian Merino wool industry is commonly credited to Captain John Macarthur, who imported Spanish Merino sheep into Australia in the early 1800s. Macarthur’s vision and foresight in recognizing the potential suitability of the Merino sheep to Australia’s harsh, dry environment was his lasting legacy to the Australian wool industry.

It is clear from the prices paid at auction that, besides the origin of the wool and type of animal, the diameter of the fibre is the most important consideration for both suppliers and processors of wool. Its importance is largely due to its contribution to softness and to the fact that the finer the fabric is, the finer the yarn can be produced, which in turn generates luxurious comfort and pleasure for the wearer.

We don’t think it’s okay to hire a wedding suit for the groom. There’s several reasons why I say that.

Have you owned a bespoke suit before?

Well I’ve probably got or own anywhere from 7 to 10 suits. At AFL football clubs you get a new suit every year. Club , where everyone gets to wear the same suit, for club functions and stuff. Generally they’re a little bit sort of basic fitting, and you know obviously they put them out in mass production. So this is my first experience with a quality suit.

When a lot of men look at buying their first bespoke suit, they will often think to purchase a black suit. The black suit is best placed for two occasions; as cocktail formal attire for a wedding or ball… or for a funeral. Black can be a hard colour to work with especially for those with lighter complexions. It can often wash out skin tones and it inspires a very formal or sombre mood for an outfit.

Bespoke suiting is the highest form of men’s tailoring and is the equivalent of haute couture for men’s fashion. To give you a little history, bespoke tailoring came into fruition over 200 years ago before the sewing machine, where all garments were constructed by hand.

The distinction of a quality suit that will last you for years lies in the construction. The construction of a bespoke suit is a work of art that requires numerous elements to bring you a garment that will stand the test of time. Not only are fabric and fit of utmost importance, but what goes into the garments to give them shape and structure, though not seen from the outside, plays a significant role in the final look of the suit.

The double-breasted suit has seen a renaissance in popularity this last decade. Its dapper cool edge and broad old school style make for that perfect, timeless statement in any gentleman’s wardrobe. Coming into fashion during the 13th and 14th centuries, the extra row of buttons was used to replace draped and pinned garments like cloaks. Over the centuries, the double-breasted suit has come in and out of style, with its more recent incarnation through the 20th century seeing it originate from reefer jackets. The nautical themes seen in menswear this decade are the reason men all over the world are breathing new life into this classic style.
