The Bespoke Tailoring Process
The Germanicos 8 Steps to Perfection
1 Initial Meeting With Your Master Tailor
Your Bespoke journey begins with a 90-minute consultation with one of our master tailors - the most important conversation in the entire process. We’ll explore your style goals, lifestyle needs, and how you want to feel in your garment. This is where we shape the vision, discuss occasions, fabrics, and construction types, and start defining the exact personality of your suit. Our clients often say this meeting feels more like collaborating with a designer than attending a fitting. It’s about precision, trust, and understanding - laying the foundation for a garment that not only fits perfectly but captures who you are.
2 Precision Measurements for Every Body Type
This step is where a Germanicos suit is truly born. If measurements and information here are accurate - taking into account exactly how you want your garments to fit - the result is immaculate. Our 44+ measurement process is adapted to your posture, stance, and proportions. We can use pattern tricks to make a shorter gentleman appear taller, a larger man appear slimmer, or accommodate unique needs such as wheelchair fittings. Every body type is within our expertise. The way we measure a muscular build is entirely different to someone with sloping shoulders or a fuller midsection. This is why decades of experience matter - you’re not in the hands of a 19-year-old sales clerk, but a master tailor who knows how to capture your body’s blueprint. This is also where you place your 50% initial deposit.
3 Selecting the Perfect Fabric
Our master tailor and stylist will study your complexion, hair, and personal style to recommend colours that will make you look your best. Having made thousands of bespoke garments, we guide you to not just the right fabric, but the best fabric for your needs. Germanicos offers Australia’s largest collection - thousands of choices from mills like Ermenegildo Zegna, Dormeuil, Holland & Sherry, Loro Piana, and more. We consider weight and composition for your climate and event - tropical-weight wools for Brisbane heat, mid-weight flannels for Melbourne winters, linens for Perth beach weddings, or cashmere blends for Canberra formality. Each fabric comes with a legacy of craftsmanship and a story you’ll be proud to wear.
4 Styling and Designing With 3D Technology
Bespoke design has entered a new era at Germanicos. Using our exclusive in-house 3D design software, you can visualise your suit before a single stitch is sewn. We collect hundreds of data points, creating millions of possible variables - ensuring your suit will never look like anyone else’s. Choose a sharp Peak Lapel, a versatile Notch Lapel, or a glamorous Shawl Lapel. Customise pockets, linings, button threads, lapel widths, and more. This level of creativity is impossible for made-to-measure tailors, who confine clients to fixed templates. With us, there are no boundaries - your design possibilities are as unique as you are.
5 Preparing Your Order
Once your design is finalised, we coordinate a logistical masterpiece. Your unique garment often combines parts sourced from four or more continents. Horn buttons might come from Canada, corozo nut buttons from Brazil, canvas from Germany, shoulder pads from England, silk linings from Italy, and fabric from Milan, Yorkshire, or Paris. Each component is hand- selected to meet our strict standards before production begins. This meticulous preparation ensures that when our tailors start crafting, they’re working with the very best materials in the world - harmonised into one-of-a-kind perfection.
6 Pattern Making and Stitching
Think of your master tailor as the architect, drafting your unique pattern based on the “survey” of measurements we took earlier. This blueprint is the foundation of your perfect fit. Once a pattern is on file - fine-tuned with your adjustments - future garments can be made far quicker, because we already have your body’s exact design. We put immense emphasis on this step because accurate drawings make the build smooth. Stitching is done with a full floating canvas, crafted in stages over several days to allow the cloth to settle naturally. From start to finish, your suit requires approximately 30–40 man hours - a true labour of skill and art.
7 Fittings and Finishing
This is where your suit comes to life - and where you see yourself transformed. Multiple fittings refine every curve, seam, and line until the fit, fabric, and weight are all perfect. WIN. WIN. WIN. It’s the perfect garment in the perfect fabric with a perfect fit - ready to turn heads. Our process continues until you are thrilled. Once your suit meets our exacting standards, it’s presented to you in flawless condition for your final fitting. This is also when you pay the remaining 50% balance.
8 Lead Times and Delivery
Our standard lead time ranges from 4–8 weeks, depending on the complexity and sourcing time for your chosen components. For urgent occasions, our express service can deliver in as little as 2 weeks (surcharge applies). Whether standard or express, you’ll collect your suit directly from your master tailor in pristine condition - pressed, prepared, and ready for its debut. This final handover is not just a pickup; it’s the conclusion of a personal journey that began with a vision and ends with you wearing it in the real world.
