A true dinner suit is distinguished from an ordinary black suit by its formal details: a shawl or peak lapel faced in duchesse satin, silk or grosgrain; fabric-covered buttons; jetted pockets; and formal trousers with side adjusters and a satin or grosgrain braid.
The design may be classic black, midnight blue, velvet, ivory or something more individual. Whatever the direction, it should look balanced, deliberate and entirely appropriate for the occasion.

Why Fit Defines a Bespoke Dinner Suit
Most dinner suits are dark. From five metres away, two black jackets may look similar. The difference becomes obvious when they are worn.
An exceptional dinner suit sits cleanly around the neck, follows the shoulders without collapsing, closes smoothly across the chest and shapes the waist without strain. It should make the wearer appear taller, improve balance through the torso and create a clean trouser line.
Tightness is not fit.
A narrow jacket can still show collar gaps, pulling buttons, twisted sleeves and poor balance. True fit is the relationship between posture, proportion, movement and line.

Black is traditional, but black is not one fabric. Germanicos can present more than 500 black cloths alone, differing in weight, weave, texture, lustre and composition.
Options range from pure wool and wool-silk blends to mohair, cashmere, velvet, tonal patterns and luxury cloths from leading English and Italian mills. Midnight blue is a favourite alternative because it can appear almost black under evening light while carrying greater depth.
The lapel should also be designed for the wearer. A shawl lapel creates a smooth, elegant line; a peak lapel adds strength, height and formality. We adjust its width, curvature and placement to suit the client’s shoulders, chest, height and face.

Dinner Suit, Tuxedo or Dinner Jacket: Which Is Right for You?
In Australia, dinner suit and tuxedo generally describe the same category of black-tie evening wear. Dinner jacket can also refer to a contrasting jacket - such as ivory, velvet or patterned cloth - worn with black formal trousers.
The right choice depends on the occasion, venue, season, dress code and how traditional or individual you want the result to be.

How far in advance should I order?
Three months before your event is ideal. This keeps the fitting period close enough to minimise the effect of body fluctuations while giving your master tailor sufficient time to select the cloth, construct the garment and perform several fittings to refine the final balance and fit.
